Hello my name is Ozlem Akman.
I was born and raised in Canada, and moved to Turkey with my family years ago. After over 15 years in the work world,
thanks to a dream, i created AngelArtByOzlem Dolls and have opened my shop in Etsy in 2014.
When i started i didn’t even have a sewing machine! But i did have some sewing past. And my mother and father are both tailors.
So i gave it a try. I drew out my own patterns, tried on some dolls in the very beginning and slowly in time they became what they are today. I have had many ideas for dolls from my buyers. So i thank them dearly.
All of my dolls are made with love and care. I think that these days our children need to play with toys that are natural
and non toxic. I use fabric that is natural and i shopmy supplies locally. I live in Bursa, Turkey which is a major textile city.
So i am lucky i have that advantage. And handmade items are more popular now then ever before.
Both of my daughters are my bosses 🙂 They tell me what they like/dont like when i sew. Even if i sew the same two dolls, never are they ever exactly the same. Thats the best thing about handmade items.
You can find me and my dolls in my shop in Etsy : https://www.etsy.com/shop/AngelArtbyOzlem

With Love and Light
Our readers are women who love art and creativity but also crafters and artists who dream that their products will become a BRAND (and there are many who truly create beautiful and unique things), what would you recommend them?
I think anything made with love, will one day have its reward. When i started i had no idea of what to expect. But i did it (and still doing it) from my heart. If you believe in yourself, then you will see the results in the art that you make. Its all connected.
Tell us, which is the feature your customers love the most? What do they value most about your job?
I think my buyers like the fact that they can customise or personalise their doll anyway they want. They send me pictures and i try my best to make it look similar or they request a name written on it. I usually make gifts for them this way. A new baby or for a graduating sister, a gift for a work friend…list goes on.
Can you tell us about some particular experience, a special request that was made by our customers?
One of my customers wanted a flight attendant doll to look like her mother who passed away. She was a flight attendant for a big American airline company in the past. They were going on a road trip with her family and wanted to gift all of her brothers and sisters a doll that symbolised their mother. And as a special request she wanted me to make all of them with little bags so they could put a bit of her moms ashes in them. I thought this was such a unique gift.
About your style, how and when did you feel like “ here I am, this is me so I want to appear on the global market and I want to offer my work, this technique, etc. represents me!”
I drew the pattern for my dolls myself. They are not made with ready made patterns. They are original because i drew them from nothing. And sometime i would have a dream that tells me what to change or do different. (If you can believe) As i made more dolls by the day i discovered little tips and tricks to make them even better. For example i changed their smile (mouth) my older dolls have a different style mouth.
I know some questions are particular… but people would love to know how to become famous, and love when a successful person talks about herself so they can learn from her and her experience. Now that your love for art has become a real job what’s your day like? how it changed your life?
Thank you 🙂 As a working mother you know that its difficult to balance work, home, children and everything altogether. My two daughters are older now so they help me around the house, when my workload is heavy. And sometimes (especially during Christmas time) i make more dolls a day, which means i have less time to spend doing anything else.
But my life hasn’t changed much. I just know that what i give all my energy to, is something that i have created from nothing. And knowing this makes me proud of myself!
Create collaborations in a world that is more interconnected is simple? Is it for you? recommendations? Ideas? suggestions? What did people write you and what do you like to receive (messages, congratulations, etc)?
I am always open for collaborations. Actually i just recently worked with a children’s cancer foundation and made them 50 dolls. And i donated a percentage of the sales to them to help support this group. Aside from that i love reading ‘feedback’ from my etsy buyers. They keep me motivated. And sometimes i get friends asking me how they can start to sell their handmade products. All of this makes me happy.
What is the price range of your products?
It ranges from 25-30usd. I also have two sizes (standard 13 inches) and Maxi size in 17 inches. There is no extra cost for custom made or personalised items.
And future planning and dreams?
Maybe one day i will have my own little shop with a small team working in the back. Im grateful for all that it is now too.
Io ti seguo sempre!!!!
Ho già in mente una bambola personalizzata per la mia nipotina
