Come sempre a caccia di cose belle mi sono imbattuta su Instagram con questi gioielli…e la loro creatrice!
Una piccola introduzione
Josanne Mark thought she’d be a Psychologist. Instead, she abandoned her budding career to follow her passion for Design. A native of the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago, Josanne graduated from The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York, Summa Cum Laude of her class on the Degree in Jewelry Design. Having a uniquely panoptic viewpoint, her Jewelry designs are inspired by the interaction between the natural world and human emotion. With over a decade in the business, Josanne Mark is famed for her handcrafted, luxurious Jewelry that injects a fresh perspective into an age-old industry.
Hi dear tell me your story
Our readers are women who love art and creativity but also crafters and artists who dream that their products will become a BRAND (and there are many who truly create beautiful and unique things), what would you recommend them?
Tell us, which is the feature your customers love the most? What do they value most about your job?
Our Customers love that our designs are original; that there isn’t anything quite like it available anywhere else. I value the freedom of my Job. From a creative angle, I am free to express myself through my own point of view and I also enjoy the freedom of creating my own work schedule that comes with being your own boss.
Can you tell us about some particular experience, a special request that was made by our customers?
I get special requests ALL the time! Customers get excited at the opportunity to have something specially made for them and this excitement is usually transferred to me. It’s always a challenge to find the right balance between pleasing your customer and also pleasing yourself. When it comes to special requests, your customer has a vision of what they want and it is not my job as a designer to simply regurgitate my customer’s ideas but to marry my own, with theirs to create something unexpected and desirable. One of my most fulfilling requests was to design a Male wedding band inspired by one of my female cuff bracelets.
About your style, how and when did you feel like “ here I am, this is me so I want to appear on the global market and I want to offer my work, this technique, etc. represents me!”
I simply just dived right into the market. I didn’t think about whether or not I would be accepted or whether or not I was ready. I just went full speed ahead. A designer instinctively knows when a piece of work is done. When there is nothing left to add or take away, you feel satisfied and this feeling is your “go” signal.
I know some questions are particular… but people would love to know how to become famous, and love when a successful person talks about herself so they can learn from her and her experience. Now that your love for art has become a real job what’s your day like? how it changed your life?
I see fame as a side effect of continually putting your best work out there. I believe in keeping striving to better your work and when you do good work, people take notice of it. My days are spent playing with ideas in my head. When I feel like I have something worth exploring I start working on it. Sometimes I sketch my thoughts and other times I simply start working the materials and let the ideas come as I go along. The design process is the one of the most fulfilling steps. However it’s not all fun and paly all day long. I try to find a balance between being an artist and an entrepreneur because both are necessary; it is indeed a symbiotic relationship. Being able to stay within this balance provides you with both satisfaction of expression and financial rewards.
Create collaborations in a world that is more interconnected is simple? Is it for you? recommendations? Ideas? suggestions? What did people write you and what do you like to receive (messages, congratulations, etc)?
Personally I’m more of a loner. I’m not against collaborations per say. Doing custom work is much like a collaboration because you’re working with your client to unite two sets of ideas.
Receiving good reviews and compliments from customers and others who simply admire your work is one of the greatest feelings. It endorses your efforts and justifies your career choice every time. It’s like having your own group of cheerleaders and there’s no other feeling like it.
What is the price range of your products?
My pieces range in price from usd $100 – $2,400
And future planning and dreams?
My dream is to grow my brand into a globally recognized name and my plan is to live this dream.
Thank you Antonella!
